This Proverb tells us that your inner thoughts, desires, and beliefs control your outward actions and the overall direction of your life.
In biblical terms, the heart is not your physical organ. It is your inner control centre, combining your mind, will, emotions, and motives. It is the place of one’s sub-conscious mind. When we believe something with all our heart we see it as absolute truth. Furthermore, the physical heart is of the flesh and it’s goal is to satisfy the lust of the flesh, and we need to guard ourselves against its schemes. ““The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?”

To "Guard" (Natsar) is a Hebrew word that means to watch over, protect, or preserve like a watchman at a gate. It requires continuous, active effort.
Your life flows like a spring from your inner thoughts into your words, habits, and ultimate destiny.
Therefore, be careful what you watch, listen to, and read, as these shape your core beliefs.
Use wisdom and personal standards to filter out toxic or ungodly influences before they take root in your emotions, and instead, fill your mind with positive and constructive values to ensure your outward actions remain life-giving.
The devil’s goal is to fill your subconscious mind with lies, these are strong holds of the mind.
We cannot remove these strong holds without God’s help to pull/ tear them down, remove them, and replace them with truth.
A stronghold is a fortified mental fortress or area of resistance built by false ideas, arguments, or lies that go against God's truth.
Our battles often take place in our thoughts and thought patterns and can cause us to believe our own lies.
Therefore, we are instructed to use divine spiritual weapons (such as truth and prayer) to demolish these false arguments and make every thought obedient to Jesus. “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”
