LAMENTATIONS 3:22-23

“Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.”

‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3‬:‭22‬-‭23‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The word lamentation means a passionate, outward expression of grief, sorrow, or mourning, often shown through weeping, wailing, or a sad song.

But these verses tells us that that God's faithful love and mercy never end, but are renewed every single morning to give people hope during hard times.

Verse 22 says "we are not consumed". This means that even when people face severe pain, failure, or judgment for their mistakes, God keeps them alive and does not let them be destroyed.

The Hebrew word for mercy here (rachamim) comes from the word  "womb," showing a deep, motherly, and nurturing care. God's care does not run out or get tired of helping His people.

Verse 23 states that God's compassions "are new every morning". This means each sunrise brings a fresh supply of grace. Yesterday's mistakes or sorrows are met with a brand-new start today.

It is encouraging to know that the passage ends by declaring that God is deeply dependable. When everything else in life changes, fails, or falls apart, God's character remains steady.

The prophet Jeremiah wrote the book of Lamentations while looking at the total ruin and destruction of Jerusalem. Amid deep national grief and suffering, Jeremiah chose to stop looking at the chaos around him and instead, he focused on the unchanging goodness of God. These verses form the turning point of the book, shifting despair into active hope.

If we look constantly at the darkness of this world we can easily fall into a pit of fear and depression, but when we focus our minds on Jesus and His faithfulness, we are immediately lifted up with a confident hope in our God, His peace, and the joy of the Lord, which is our strength (NEHEMIAH 8:10).

All glory be to God forever and ever!
