How Can I Please God?

MICAH 6-6-8

“With what shall I come before the Lord, And bow myself before the High God? Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, With calves a year old? Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, Ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?”

‭‭Micah‬ ‭6:6-8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Israel responded to God’s request by trying to appease Him with sacrifices, with the hope that He would leave them alone. But the truth is, they could not buy God and we cannot buy God in today’s world either.

It was impossible to please God in Old Testament times without faith and it remains the same today (HEBREWS 11).

My beloved, it is impossible to purchase or earn salvation, only by faith alone can one be saved.

Salvation is a gift from God, and is given solely out of God’s selfless love and grace.

Sacrifice’s and other religious rituals cannot save us, salvation is priceless.

God has paid the price of our redemption; Indeed He paid the highest price possible, giving His first born, His only begotten Son as a sacrifice to pay the debt and justify our eternal future (JOHN 3:16).

Therefore, our works and good deeds cannot purchase salvation, nor religious acts and sacrifices, if they could, Jesus would of not of needed to die to pay our debt.

Grace does override justice. We are saved purely by the blood of Jesus Christ that all who believe on Him are justified to receive the gift of life everlasting.

So how then can we be pleasing to God?

He wants His people to be fair, just, merciful, and humble. He wants us to become living sacrifices (ROMANS 12:1-2), not doing religious deeds, but living right (JEREMIAH 4:4; HEBREWS 9:14)

People have tried all kinds of ways to please God, but He has made it perfectly clear that He wants His people to live right: to treat each other fairly with love mercy, and to humbly walk with Him in righteousness.

God did not call us to unclean lives , but in holiness (1 THESSALONIANS 4:7).

My beloved, as a mature Christian, repentance should not be because we deliberately sinned, but rather, it should be “just in case” we have unwittingly made a mistake.

If you are to call yourself a child of God, then live like one, that you shine for Christ and glorify His holy Name.

If you are struggling in a particular area of sin, ask our gracious God to help you. The truth is, we cannot live right in our own strength, we all need help.

Jesus said, ““If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.”

‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭15‬-‭18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The Holy Spirit is with you from the moment you commit your life to Christ; indeed He will be in you, to lead, guide, and help you all the way (JOHN 14:15-18).

But He doesn’t take away one’s free will; we all have a choice, to live by the leading of our flesh or to live by the leading of the Spirit.

To operate in the flesh is to be carnally minded and death, “For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭6‬-‭8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

My beloved, God has made a way where there was no way. Having paid the debt of sin, He has sent His Holy Spirit to help us all the way.

Having been baptised in water as a public declaration of your covenant in Christ, God baptises us in Spirit and blood and you are saved. For “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1‬:‭13‬-‭14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Even though God knows about your past, present, and future sins, a forever covenant has been made and all your sin has been forgiven.

For, “This is He who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.”

‭‭I John‬ ‭5‬:‭6‬-‭8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

My beloved, by the grace of God, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the  Spirit.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭1‬-‭5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The truth is, we humans cannot live right in our own strength because of our sinful nature was inherited from Adam and Eve (ROMANS 5:12).

But with God’s help we can put the lust of our flesh to death and walk in the righteousness of Jesus Christ who never sinned.

“I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.”

‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭16‬-‭26‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
