Strong Holds Of The Mind

2 CORINTHIANS 10:4-6

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”

‭‭II Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭4‬-‭6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Paul tells us that Christians do not fight successfully with worldly methods, like anger, insults, or human manipulation. Instead, they use God's divine tools, which include truth, prayer, faith, and the Word of God.

A stronghold is a deeply rooted false belief, pride, or argument that goes against God. In Corinth, this meant intellectual pride and false teachings opposing the gospel. The false belief becomes embedded within our subconscious mind and we would see the lie as absolute truth.

Our subconscious minds use our emotions to teach us what to like or dislike, and what is good or bad for us, from the food we eat, to our sexual preferences including orientation, our spiritual beliefs, and information we hear. It is our default system in times of danger, and very easily influenced. Our emotions are very powerful and can cause us to believe our own lies.

Therefore, we must take every thought captive, which means examining what you think and matching it up with the truth of Jesus Christ. When a harmful, prideful, or unbiblical thought pops up, a believer must reject it and replace it with God's truth.

Once strong holds are developed, we cannot remove them  in our own power, but must ask God to tear them down and replace them with His truth.

Paul is defending his authority as an apostle. He hopes the Corinthian church as we believers must do today, will choose to obey God fully. Once they do, he is prepared to deal with and discipline those who stubbornly remain rebellious.

Just like the our corrupt governments and media outlets, the devil feeds our emotions so that we will believe their lies. He attacks our emotions to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10) our relationships, our peace, our ministries, our lives, and to bring fear, torment, shame and guilt and such things as these.

Therefore, take every thought captive and bring them to the obedience of Jesus Christ-His truth and His realities that He purchased for you on the cross.

Jesus paid it all,  but “Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him. He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭53‬:‭1‬-‭5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

All glory be to God forever and ever! Amen.
