Here the Word teaches the principle of reciprocity in generosity. Giving freely of your time, kindness, or resources does not deplete you; instead, it fosters a cyclical return of spiritual, emotional, and material well-being.
A generous person (or "liberal soul"), refers to an open-handed, big-hearted individual who is eager to bless others rather than hoard what they have. Whoever refreshes (or "waters"), is a metaphor of bringing water to thirsty land or crops.
Whoever Refreshes or waters others, whether physically or spiritually, will be receive the same life-giving repleshishment themselves.
Giving away your resources or energy is not a zero-sum subtraction. While it includes material wealth, "prosperity" and "refreshment" heavily apply to mental peace, community support, and spiritual joy.
As a proverb, it describes a general, moral truth about how a life of active kindness tends to cultivate a healthy, supported community for the giver, rather than acting as a strict financial guarantee.
Having said all that, and giving is a big part of Christian life, it is good to remember that a fool and his money is quickly parted.
We believers are called to help the needy, not subsidise the greedy.
Whether time or money, give generously by the leading of the Holy Spirit.
All glory be to God forever and ever! Amen.
Please share to our brothers and sisters all around the world.
