Being Merciful Is A Decision
“Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.”

Spoken by Jesus during the Sermon on the Plain, this core verse calls believers to mirror God's character by showing active compassion, withholding harsh judgment, and forgiving others instead of seeking retaliation.
This verse sits right in the middle of Jesus' teachings on loving enemies, doing good without expecting return, and treating others with radical grace.
Jesus points to God the Father as the ultimate example, noting that God is kind even to the ungrateful and the wicked.
Mercy is not just a passive feeling; it is an active choice to treat hurting or difficult people with kindness.
