Blessed Is The Man Who Trust In The Lord And Whose Trust Is The Lord
Only God Can Fix Our Hearts
JEREMIAH 17:7
“”Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD.
”Jeremiah 17:7 NKJV

Being "blessed" (happy, favoured, and deeply secure) comes from placing one's confidence, faith, and ultimate reliance directly on God rather than human strength.
The verse emphasizes that the Lord is not just the object of trust, He is the source of it. It means leaning on God’s character, promises, and power instead of your own resources or other people.
It sits directly opposite the warning against trusting in "man" or "flesh," which turns the heart away from God and results in a spiritual desert, like a dry, dead shrub in a parched wasteland that cannot see relief (v 5-6).
Verse 7 flows immediately into the famous image of a tree planted by a stream. Because its roots reach deep to a steady water source, it does not panic, wither, or stop bearing fruit when heat and drought arrive.
In difficult seasons, crises, or trials ("when heat comes"), people who trust God remain steady, untroubled by anxiety, and spiritually fruitful because their sustenance comes from an unshakeable source.
But this verse is followed with a warning, that tells us that human thoughts and emotions are naturally untrustworthy and deeply flawed by sin, making it impossible for people to fully understand their own hidden motives without God, for ““The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?”
Jeremiah 17:9 NKJV
In the Bible, the "heart" means your inner self (subconscious mind). It connects directly to your soul-your mind, will, and emotions.
The original Hebrew word points to a sickness that is deep and hard to cure on your own.
David understood this, and asked God to create in me a pure heart (Psalm 51:10).
You cannot always trust your own feelings or inner desires to guide you to what is right. Popular advice says to "follow your heart," but the Bible warns that feelings can lead you into trouble.
Right after this verse, Jeremiah 17:10 states that only God can search and truly understand the human mind. God looks past outward appearances to see the truth, and it is the truth that sets you free (John 8:32).
Because people cannot fix their own broken inner nature, Christian theology teaches us that like David, people need supernatural help and renewal from God.
All glory be to God forever and ever! Amen.
