Galatians 6:2 tells us that Christians are called to actively help and support each other through heavy life struggles, and by doing so, they obey the law of Christ.
A burden refers to an overwhelming trial that is too heavy to carry alone. This includes emotional grief, financial stress, spiritual doubt, or deep temptation. The Law of Christ is not a rigid list of rules. Instead, it is the supreme law of love. Jesus commanded His followers to love one another the way He loved them (John 13:34). Helping others in their time of need puts that active love into practice.
A few verses later in Galatians 6:5, Paul writes that "each one will bear his own load". This means that verse 2 is about helping with crushing, unexpected hardships, not enabling people to avoid basic, everyday personal responsibilities they can handle themselves. It’s important to understand that we are called to help the needy, not carry the lazy or subsidise the greedy.
Having said that, we all need help at times, and whilst the ultimate victory is in Christ, we believers must be willing to humbly ask our brothers and sisters in Christ for help when we need it, being prepared and ready also to help others who are in need.
Therefore, “Trust in the LORD and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.”
Psalms 37:3 NLT
Doing good keeps one safe in this dark world, and as he or she reaches out to others in need, God will send the right people to help him or her through their troubles, building loving relationships and prosperity.
My beloved, “Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.”
Psalms 37:4 NKJV
All glory be to God forever and ever! Amen.
