The Captives Are Being Set Free

JOHN 2:19
“Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

Here, Jesus was prophetically declaring His own crucifixion and resurrection. Rather than speaking of the physical building in Jerusalem, Jesus used the word "temple" as a metaphor for His own body, predicting that His followers and the religious authorities would cause His death, but He would conquer it by returning to life on the third day.
Shortly after turning water into wine, Jesus visited the Jerusalem Temple during Passover and drove out the corrupt merchants and money changers who were exploiting worshippers.
Shocked by His boldness, the religious leaders demanded a miraculous sign to prove He had the authority to do these things.
Jesus' response in John 2:19 was His answer to their demand.
Throughout the Old Testament, the physical temple was the literal dwelling place of God’s presence on Earth. By calling His body the temple, Jesus was making a profound claim of divinity.
When Jesus said "I will raise it up," He was asserting His own power over life and death.
Jesus refused to perform a cheap magic trick on command. Instead, He pointed to the ultimate, defining miracle of His ministry—His resurrection.
The religious leaders were entirely confused by the statement. They thought He was talking about the magnificent, physical Temple in Jerusalem, which had taken forty six years to construct and was still under development. They scoffed at the idea that anyone could rebuild it in three days.
Interestingly, after forty seven years of captivity, Iran along with Christians all around the world are systematically being set free from Islamic rule today.
In John 2:21-22, the word clarifies that even Jesus' closest disciples didn't understand the meaning of the verse when He said it. It was only after Jesus had been crucified, placed in the tomb, and resurrected three days later, that the disciples remembered His words, finally understood what He meant, and believed in His teachings.
Today we are living through the rebuilding of the church. We are eye witnesses of the collapse of Islamic rule, and the new wine is being poured out into the new wine skins.
““And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. “And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, As the Lord has said, Among the remnant whom the Lord calls.”
‭‭Joel‬ ‭2‬:‭28‬-‭32‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
