PROVERBS 21:1-5
“These also are proverbs of Solomon which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied: It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter. As the heavens for height and the earth for depth, So the heart of kings is unsearchable. Take away the dross from silver, And it will go to the silversmith for jewelry. Take away the wicked from before the king, And his throne will be established in righteousness.

In the days of Solomon, kings possessed absolute authority and were often considered to be like gods. Even though the earth's most powerful kings may not of realised it, they have always been under God's control. (See ISAIAH 10:5-8 for an example of a pagan king who was used for God's purpose.)
People often think they are doing right, but God sees the motives of their hearts which is deceitful and can take us in the wrong direction (JEREMIAH 17:9).
Only one direction is right and that is God’s direction. To walk the other way or even rebelliously stand still is sin.
When making decisions of direction and projects, or career choices or even marriage, we believers must ask God for discernment and examine our motives; it is easy to justify an action to fit our own cravings and desires, or refuse an action because we are uncomfortable or have our own plans.
Ask yourself, would God be pleased with my real reason for doing this? Is this really the direction God wants me to go?
God isn't pleased when we do something for unnecessary personal gain-what we can get out of it, or to hide a past mistake, particularly when it affects others in a negative way, and He’s not happy when we refuse to walk in the direction He points us in.
As Christians, our good deeds should be totally unconditional and selfless, out of love for the Lord and people (see MATHEW 22:37-40).
Sacrifices are not bribes to make God overlook our character faults.
We can't exchange a good deed or behaviour in one area for a bad behaviour in another. If our personal and business dealings are not characterised by justice, no amount of generosity will make up for it when the offering plate is passed.
Faithful completion of one's work is a great accomplishment. Being a diligent worker doesn't come naturally to everyone; it's a result of a strong character.
As believers, what ever work we are doing, we must not be tempted to take short cuts that result in inefficiency or poor workmanship, but instead, we should work willingly as if working for the Lord rather than people (COLOSSIANS 3:23).
We believers are ambassadors of God, representatives of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in absolutely everything we do and say, whether we are serving God, or in our work place, or in our marriages and private lives. Furthermore, we must not forget God's light is shining on us, and will expose not just the good things we do, but also the bad.
God is not pleased by our works, but rather by our faith in Him (HEBREWS 11:8-19).
Therefore do not become complacent, but rather “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones. Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.”
Proverbs 3:5-10 NKJV
Render your heart and submit to His plans and purposes in your life (JEOL 2:13), for that is God's will for you, then the good works of the Spirit shall manifest themselves through you and you will shine for Christ.
My brethren, make the decision today to shine brightly for our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ by good deeds and motives, showing ourselves as true children of God; shining for Christ and bringing glory to His Holy name.
