A New Command I Give You: Love One Another As I Have Love You. So You Must Love One Another

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

This verse is a core teaching where Jesus tells his disciples, "A new command I give you”, He said “Love one another as I have loved you, so you must love one another." Its meaning centre’s on shifting from basic affection to a radical, sacrificial standard of love modeled directly by Jesus' own actions.
The command to love is not new, but the measurement is. The standard is no longer "love your neighbor as yourself," but to love others as Jesus loved—unconditionally and without limits.
Jesus spoke these words during the Last Supper right before washing his disciples' feet and facing His death. He meant a love shown through humble service and laying down one's life for others.
In the very next verse (John 13:35), Jesus adds that this specific kind of love is how everyone will know who belongs to Him. It acts as the primary identifying badge of a Christian.

To love is the foundation of Christ' way of life. Jesus said in response to a lawyer testing Him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.””
