This verse encapsulates the core of Christian ethics, establishing Christ’s sacrificial love as the model and standard for how believers should treat one another.
Jesus raises the bar of human relationships as He commands His followers to love one another not just as much as they love themselves, but exactly the way He loved them, selflessly, unconditionally, and without partiality.
The Greek word used for love in this passage is agapaō, which refers to a deliberate, sacrificial action rather than a mere feeling. It is a command to serve, forgive, and prioritize the well-being of others.
Jesus defines this love in the very next verse (John 15:13), noting that the greatest expression of love is laying down one's life for one's friends—a standard He demonstrated through His sacrifice and actions.
In the broader context of the Gospel of John, Jesus taught that this mutual, sacrificial love would be the defining characteristic that identifies His followers to the rest of the world.
Today, the Lord is calling out His people to let go of all offence and forgive one another-He is calling us out to love one another as Christ loves the church.
This is a call for action, not mere words-a determined effort that would bring glory to our Father in heaven.
All glory be to God forever and ever! Amen.
Please share to our brothers and sisters all around the world.
