The Lord Replied, "My Presence Will Go With You, And I Will Give You Rest

EXODUS 33:14

“And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.””

Israel sinned by worshipping the golden calf (Exodus 32:1–7).

In His initial response, God said He would send an angel, but would not go with them personally so He would not destroy them along the way (Exodus 33:1–3).

But Moses met God in the tent outside the camp and begged Him to show His ways and stay with His people (Exodus 33:12–13). He begged for God’s mercy in this matter.

Then the Lord replied to Moses, promising that His personal presence will accompany them after all-His mercies endure forever.

It’s very encouraging to know that God is merciful even when we place ourselves in trouble through our own faults, failures, and actions.

God then promised His presence would accompany them out of trouble and give them rest.

Presence (Panim) literally means "face." It signifies God's own personal nearness and direct relationship, rather than just an angelic messenger.

Despite our sinful nature, rather than religious acts, God wants personal nearness and direct relationship with us believers today.

Rest (Nuach) means a settled peace, quiet confidence, or arrival at a safe destination (like the Promised Land).

Despite the idolatry, God’s merciful nature shone through to deliver His people as promised and give them peace.

What makes God's people unique is not their own strength or the land itself, but God walking closely with them in personal relationship.

It is through personal relationship and closeness, that God gives us peace in our trials today.

God offers deep inner peace and security to those who rely on His guidance.

Relationship with God can only be achieved through quality time alone in His presence communicating in prayer, walking in faith, attending and participating in gatherings, being on time to join with the worship and prayers from start to finish, and living right with God in our daily lives, showing mercy and compassion to others. But through that relationship, God will personally go with you through it all and give you rest.
