So God Created Human Beings In His Image
Identity, Worth, And Purpose
Genesis 1:26-27
“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
”Genesis 1:26-27 NKJV

These verses establish the unique identity, worth, and purpose of humanity by declaring that human beings are created in the "image and likeness" of God. This foundational passage marks a dramatic shift in the creation narrative from God simply speaking things into existence to a deliberate, intimate design process for mankind.
Being made in God's image refers to humans as His resemblances and representatives here on Earth. We reflect His moral, mental, and relational attributes.
Furthermore, our God is a Spirit God-the Holy Spirit, and He created us humans in spiritual form and He knew us before we were in our mother’s womb (JEREMIAH 1:5).
At the time of creation, God speaking to Job, said, “To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?”
Job 38:6-7 NKJV
He was speaking of the beginning of creation itself, “And all the sons of God shouted for joy.”
All, not some were angelic beings shouting for joy at the creation-hence, God knew us before we was in our mothers womb.
The plural language, such as "Let Us make," is historically seen by Christians as an early reference to the Trinity-the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
God grants humanity "dominion" over the earth. This is a commission to act as responsible stewards, caring for creation.
But these verses make it very clear why prayer is so important.
Since humans have been given dominion over the whole world, God cannot legally intervene in our physical lives because Jesus is at throne of God in the heavenly places, and He needs a physical body to legally operate from on this earth.
Jesus, God in human form (PHILIPPIANS 6-7), came to undo the works of the devil, pay the debt of sin, and then when He returned to the Father in heaven, sent and filled His people with His Holy Spirit (JOHN 14:15-18), to do His good work through His people here on earth. He came to undo the works of the devil (JOHN 3:8, pay the debt of the world (JOHN 3:16), and to continue to redeem His people through His Spirit filled believers, “for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”
Philippians 2:13 NKJV
Therefore my beloved, “Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.”
Philippians 2:14-16 NKJV
It is important that our prayers are Spirit led prayers so that it is God’s will that shall be done here on earth as it is in heaven (MATHEW 6:10)..
Our own personal prayers, especially when praying for governments and world leadership can hinder God’s plans.
GENESIS 1:27, emphasises that both "male and female" are created in the image of God, establishing the equal dignity and value of both sexes.
In the ancient Near East, where only kings were typically considered divine images, Genesis democratises this by teaching that every human being possesses inherent dignity and value. While this image was fractured by sin, it is restored to fullness through the spilled blood of Jesus Christ.
My beloved, we humans all fell to sin and deserve the death sentence. “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.”
I Peter 2:9-10 NKJV
All glory be to God forever and ever! Amen
