The Thief Comes Only To Steal And Kill & Destroy, I Have Come That They May Have Life, & Have It To The Full
You "May" Have Life Abundantly
JOHN 10:10
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
”John 10:10 NKJV

Here, Jesus contrasts a destructive force with His own life-giving mission.
In its immediate context (John 9 and 10), "the thief" refers to the devil, his fallen angels, and those he uses, like the false religious leaders and the Pharisees who exploited, misled, and mistreated people for self-gain. In a broader theological sense, it represents any destructive influence or the adversary (Satan) who works against human flourishing. He came only to steal and to kill, and to destroy.
Jesus does not promise material wealth or an easy, trouble-free life. Instead, "abundant life" that means a rich, meaningful, and eternal relationship with God, characterized by grace, true freedom, inner peace, and purpose. He didn't say, "you might have life" He said "you may have it"! In other words you can have abundant life if you choose. It is a Jesus promise that cannot be broken.
The verse is part of Jesus' teaching where He presents Himself as the Good Shepherd who protects and cares for His sheep, contrasting Himself with self-serving hirelings who are there only for the money.
Jesus is the good Shepherd who leaves the ninety nine to save the one who has wondered off (Luke 15:3-7; Mathew 18:12-14).
All glory be to God forever and ever! Amen.
