It's Not Easy Being A Christian

LUKE 9:23-24
“Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.
”‭‭Luke‬ ‭9‬:‭23‬-‭24‬ ‭NKJV‬

These verses capture the core requirement of being a Christian-true followers must surrender their selfish desires, embrace daily sacrifices for Christ, and prioritize God's will over worldly comforts to receive eternal life.
This means relinquishing your own will and selfish ambitions to make Jesus the ultimate authority in your life. It involves actively choosing God's desires over human nature.
To take up your cross in Roman times, was speaking of a condemned person carrying their execution stake. Metaphorically, Jesus is calling His followers to live as though they are dead to sin, voluntarily and consistently laying down their personal rights and comforts for Christ
The words “Follow me", denotes continuous, obedient action. True discipleship is a daily pattern of imitating Jesus' life, teachings, and sacrificial love.

The words "Whoever would save his life will lose it" tells us to preserve your life on your own terms, clinging to worldly status, comfort, and control, ultimately leads to spiritual death. But the words “Whoever loses his life for my sake will save it" is telling us that surrendering your life to Christ requires sacrifice, but it trades temporary, worldly gains for true, abundant, and eternal life in God’s kingdom.
Being a Christian requires more than a casual commitment. It demands total devotion, putting God above even your own earthly life.
The phrase "daily" signifies that following Jesus is not just a one-time decision, but a continual, conscious choice to put aside selfish inclinations.
It’s not easy living a Christian life, but the benefits are above anything one can imagine-a wonderful eternal future with our Almighty.
All glory be to God forever and ever! Amen.
