You Can Make Many Plans But The LORD'S Purpose Will Prevail
The "LORD" Shall Have His Way

“There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand.
”Proverbs 19:21 NKJV

This verse emphasizes human limitations and God’s ultimate sovereignty. While individuals can freely make goals and intentions, the overarching direction of life ultimately rests on divine will and purpose.
“A person's heart" refers to a person's inner thoughts, desires, and ambitions. People naturally make intricate plans for their careers, families, and finances. However, this proverb highlights that human knowledge is limited. God's sovereign counsel supersedes our own.
When one’s plans contradict God’s plans, His plans will always stand, and that person may find himself in a battle with God or may even find themselves in the belly of a giant fish, only to be spat out and sent to do God's will regardless (Jonah 1-2).
When well-thought-out plans fall apart or get delayed, this verse offers reassurance. It suggests that closed doors or interruptions are not necessarily failures, but can be God's way of protecting or redirecting a person toward a better, divinely purposed outcome.
Rather than advising against planning, Proverbs 19:21 encourages a posture of humility and flexibility. It reminds individuals to pursue their goals diligently while submitting their ultimate expectations to God's will.
All glory be to God forever and ever! Amen.
