As You Do Not Know The Path Of The Wind, Or How The Body Is Formed In A Mother's Womb, So You Cannot Understand The Work Of God, The Maker Of All Things
Investing Into The Future
ECCLESIASTES 11:1-5
“Cast your bread upon the waters, For you will find it after many days. Give a serving to seven, and also to eight, For you do not know what evil will be on the earth. If the clouds are full of rain, They empty themselves upon the earth; And if a tree falls to the south or the north, In the place where the tree falls, there it shall lie. He who observes the wind will not sow, And he who regards the clouds will not reap. As you do not know what is the way of the wind, Or how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child, So you do not know the works of God who makes everything.

Solomon, in these verses, summarises that life involves risk and opportunity, and has no guarantees.
We must always be prepared to seize every opportunity that Lord provides and run with every good desire He gives us. For it is the Lord who gives us godly desires, and empowers us to do them (PHILIPPIANS 2:13).
God doesn’t just pour out blessings when it comes to our daily needs. But rather gifts us with different abilities to work in our careers, along with spiritual gifts for our individual calling to help and edify the church (1 CORINTHIANS 12).
Furthermore, He gives us opportunities to work, build a career and be active within His ministry. Indeed, if anyone will not work, neither shall he eat (2 THESSALONIANS 3:10-13).
It is not biblical to ask people for provision, indeed that man, can expect nothing from the Lord. You either put your trust in God or the world. ““No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
Matthew 6:24 NKJV
Jesus said, ““Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will Hewill He not much more clotheclothe you, O you of little faith? “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day isis its own trouble.”
Matthew 6:25-34 NKJV
Furthermore, every blessing comes with purpose; He doesn’t give riches simply to line one’s bank account; He won’t bless anyone with blessings that shall cause them to fall. He gives only what one can handle, but as we make it our priority to seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, ALL, not some, will be added to you.
Ecclesiastes 11:1-5 advises acting with generous, calculated risk despite life's uncertainties. It urges investing resources (bread upon waters) broadly, because the future is unpredictable, and God’s work is ultimately mysterious, encouraging action by faith.
It suggests that since one cannot control outcomes, one should do good diligently.
Verses 1-2 encourages generous charity or risky investment, suggesting that doing good or taking risks will eventually bring returns ("you will find it after many days").
Solomon in his wisdom, tells us, to “Divide your portion to seven, or even to eight, for you do not know what misfortune may occur..." This advises spreading investments or efforts across multiple areas to mitigate risks, acting as an early principle of risk management. In other words, don’t put all your eggs in one basket.
Solomon tells us, don’t be paralysed by circumstance. Trust God, “for He who watches the wind will not sow..." This statement warns against over-analyzing circumstances and waiting for perfect conditions that prevents action, productivity, and success (v4).
“As you do not know... how the bones grow in the womb... so you do not know the work of God." This highlights that human knowledge is limited, and God's ways are mysterious; thus, one should trust God rather than demanding full understanding (v5).
Paul also gave us good advice, saying, “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:4-7 NKJV
These verses tells us by Solomon's wisdom, how to invest into the future, and be successful and prosperous, by taking calculated risk and action.
But the best investment one can ever make is to invest into there eternal future by putting their trust in Jesus Christ, with determined action and faith.
Therefore, "Seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness and ALL will be added to you," whilst securing your whole eternal future.
All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
