Deliver Us From The Evil One

“In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬-‭13‬ ‭NKJV‬

Here Jesus outlines the the perfect prayer-the Lord’s Prayer, providing a model of prayer that is focused on honoring God, seeking His kingdom, requesting daily provision, asking for forgiveness, and seeking protection from temptation and evil.
As part of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus instructs believers to pray for God’s will over personal desires, building an intimate relationship with a loving "Father".
Verse 9 instructs us to address God as a personal "Father" and hallowing His name (recognizing His holiness and authority).
He tells us to Pray for God’s kingdom to come and for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven (v10).
We are to request our "daily bread," which is every provision, both physical and spiritual food, and represents trust in God for daily sustenance rather than hoarding or worrying (v11).
We are to ask our Father in heaven for forgiveness of "debts" (sins) while emphasizing the necessity of extending forgiveness to others (v12).
Forgiveness of all others is paramount to salvation, for if one doesn’t forgive others their sin, our Father in heaven will not forgive his or hers (MATHEW 6:14-15).
To forgive others we need to understand exactly what that means and doesn’t mean.
If one has a motor accident of no fault of their own, the damage done comes with a cost and must be paid by the guilty party.
In the same way, when one causes us harm, the guilty party becomes indebted and technically should pay back the debt in way of compensation.
To forgive, is not a requirement to make your debtor your best friend, nor does that mean that person will go unpunished. It means that we personally write of the debt and set our aggressor free. It is God alone who shall bring revenge and judgment (ROMANS 12:19).
Jesus instructs us to ask for protection from the evil one; to be kept from temptation and delivered from evil one, acknowledging human weakness and the need of deliverance (v13).
Many believers say that a Christian cannot be possessed or demonised by the devil because God’s Holy Spirit fills us and He won’t share the vessel with the demonic. They say “possession is ownership, and the devil cannot own Christians.”
But this message is very clear, “deliver us” from the evil one. Who is us? Christians! And who is the “evil one?” The devil and all his demonic powers evil spirits and demons.
When a woman who seemed to be an unbeliever asked Jesus to heal her possessed daughter, Jesus after a time of ignoring her, replied, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!” But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭15‬:‭24‬-‭28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
The lost sheep of Israel are all members of His flock-Christians that have lost their way. He said, it’s not good to take the children’s bread” and throw it away (to unbelievers). In other words, My bread is for believers only.
But when the woman shows her faith, she was accepted as a believer, became a child of God and her daughter was immediately healed, for the promise is to our children and as many as the Lord chooses to call (ACTS 2:39).
The other point is, if someone steals your car, they can drive it anywhere, use it not only to cause damage to others, but can seriously cause it harm. But they don’t own it, when they get caught they have to get out of the vehicle and it is returned to its rightful owner who can restore it back to its former condition.
When one is possessed, he will do bad things, cause others harm, and experience all kinds of health issues, addictions, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, and so on. But when the devil is evicted, the body is free! Free to heal and free to serve God.
“Jesus said “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8‬:‭34‬-‭36‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
When one is saved, he or she receives the gift of the Holy Spirit. He joins with his or her spirit and “he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.”
‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
He manifest Himself through one’s soul, the mind, will, and emotions, to do good works through his or her flesh, and out of the belly/ heart flows rivers of living waters (JOHN 7:38).
One’s spirit is made perfect, but the flesh continues to seek to satisfy it’s lust (GALATIANS 5:16-26)
When one commits sin, the Holy Spirit retreats from the flesh and remains quiet joined with his spirit.
It feels like the Spirit has left the body, but He will never leave (JOHN 14:15-18), but instead, quietly convicts one to repent and change.
Sin lets the demonic into flesh to operate through the soul to deceive and bring wrong behaviours and sickness. His purpose is to steal and to kill and to destroy, but Christ came that you have life, and that you may have it abundantly (JOHN 10:10).
James said, “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
‭‭James‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬-‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
The Lord’s Prayer teaches that prayer should be an intimate conversation with God rather than a hypocritical, public display.
Private time with God in good conversation builds one’s relationship with Him.
Some say that we shouldn’t use Jesus’ personal prayer as our own, but God’s Word is powerful and a weapon of mass destruction of the enemy.
His Word is the legal argument in the courts of heaven, and brings freedom, healing, and destroys the mountains in our lives (MATHEW 13:31-32) to give us victory through Christ who is our strength (1 CORINTHIANS 15:57).
All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
Please like and share to our brothers and sisters all around the world.
