We humans are made up of three parts, spirit, soul and flesh.
Our spirit pre-existed possibly at creation or before, “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life (his or her pre-existent spirit) ; and man became a living soul."
Genesis 2:7 KJV
The Holy Spirit is described as like a wind (JOHN 3:8), and that man kind was created in the image of God (GENESIS 1:27). One can make the assumption that the human spirit is in the image of God’s Spirit and at birth is like a wind and God breathed it into one’s flesh and he or she became a living soul.
The Bible addresses spirits and the afterlife, often differentiating between the Holy Spirit and fallen angels, spirits and demons. Key verses regarding spirits, demons, and the afterlife include Luke 24:39 ("a spirit does not have flesh and bones"), 1 Samuel 28:13-14 (the medium at Endor), and Isaiah 8:19 (warning against consulting the dead).
Our spirit, all though it came from God, is separate from Gods Spirit.
When saved, one receives the gift of the Holy Spirit (JOHN 14:15-18), who joins with his or her spirit, and he or she becomes one spirit with Him (1 CORINTHIANS 6:17).
For, “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
”Ephesians 1:13-14 NKJV
If not saved, he or she doesn’t even know the Holy Spirit or sees Him (JOHN 14:17) and remains separated from God, and eternal death is inevitable.
The Word of God tells us of a pre-mortal spiritual existence that emphasises that God knew us before physical conception, indicating a spiritual life before birth.
Key verses include Jeremiah 1:5 ("Before I formed you in the womb I knew you"), Psalm 139:15-16 says being "woven together" while unseen, and Job 38:4-7, mentions "sons of God" shouting for joy at the earth's creation.
The sons were shouting at the creation of the earth.
Paul said, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love,”
Ephesians 1:3-4 NKJV
God chose and blessed His people with spiritual blessings before He laid the foundation of the world.
The sons had to be spiritual beings (persons) receiving spiritual blessings shouting at the creation because they already existed in the spiritual realms at the time of creation.
A spirit is a person who has no physical body.
““Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”"
Jeremiah 1:5 NKJV
God knew Jeremiah before he was in his mother’s womb. He had no physical form, therefore, he was a spirit, a person without physical flesh.
He ordained him a prophet when he had a physical body after conception when he was in his mother’s womb before he was born.
Since the two realms are either physical or spiritual, God knew him as a spirit being before he was conceived.
The Scripture shows us that their was an individual pre-spiritual existence before we became human beings.
The fallen angels are the unclean spirits and demons of today.
They pre-existed and were thrown out of heaven (REVELATION 12:7-9).
These fallen angels are equated with unclean spirits (demons), representing spiritual beings who followed Satan in rebellion against God.
They are described as evil, unholy, and active in tormenting people or hindering God’s work.
Demons are demonic spirits, under the control of principalities, powers, the rulers of the darkness of this age; they are spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (EPHESIANS 6:12)
These demonic entities are individually named, proving that all spirits are individual spirits (persons without physical bodies) that exist separate from one another.
"My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them."
”Psalms 139:15-16 NKJV
Here David points out that God saw his substance before he was physically formed, and the days were fashioned for him, yet there were none of them. This is talking of time before creation, before the days came into existence. This again suggests a pre-spiritual existence, not just before we was physically born, but before the beginning of creation itself.
God’s “own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began."
II Timothy 1:9 NKJV
Gods Word time and time again, tells us of of a pre-spiritual life before we was in our mothers womb.-“Grace was given to us before time began.
”"Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation (JOB 34:4), while the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy (JOB 34:7)?” This is confirmation of the premortal existence of spirits.
“And the dust (flesh) returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it
(EPHESIANS 22:7).
This tells us that God created our, spiritual life in the heavens, not on earth before we was born. In fact, before the creation itself, and that when we die, our flesh returns to dust and our spirit shall return to God in the spiritual realms where it came from.
God knew Jeremiah before he was in his mother’s womb, but at birth, he became a living soul (GENESIS 1:27).
According to God’s Word, the soul represents a person’s inner being, our consciousness, mind, will and emotions, and life force, described as created by God at birth “we became a living soul (Genesis 2:7).
”Our soul at times is needing restoration (Psalm 23:3), and holds eternal values (Matthew 10:28).
It is frequently associated with loving God entirely (Deuteronomy 6:5).
Our soul didn’t pre-exist before birth, it became a living soul at birth.
The Word does not explicitly use the term "soul ties," but it does discuss profound spiritual and physical bonds between people.
While some interpretations view them as spiritual attachments that can be unhealthy, Scripture predominantly emphasizes "one flesh" in marriage unions (Genesis 2:24) and close, godly friendships (1 Samuel 18:1), rather than broken soul fragments.
The Bible describes marriage as a sacred, "one flesh" union intended to be a protective, deep connection
(1 Corinthians 6:16, Genesis 2:24).
The Bible uses language of souls being "knit" together to describe loyal, righteous friendships, such as that between David and Jonathan (1 Samuel 18:1).
While the Bible does not use the term "soul ties,” that is exactly what they are, mans description of soul connections being knit together through relationships.
Scripture cautions against immoral relationships and becoming bonded to improper partners, such as a prostitute (1 Corinthians 6:16) or idolatry (Hosea 4:17), for they produce un-godly soul ties.
The breaking of unhealthy emotional or spiritual bonds (cutting un-godly soul ties) is necessary for true freedom in Christ.
Soul ties knit person to person, which brings closeness and develops relationships. But un-godly soul ties knit people together one person to another through sin, and is a pathway for the demonic to enter from person to another. Sin in each person is an entry point for the demonic spirits to enter one person’s flesh, and can then travel through the ungodly soul ties from one to another and demonise/ possess all connected.
Familiar spirits are demonic entities that acts as a deceptive guide, from a dead person, ancestor, or spirit guide to provide supernatural knowledge, often through a human medium.
Rooted in the Hebrew word 'ob (representing both the spirit and the medium), these spirits are considered "familiar" because they know the personal history, weaknesses, and habits of individuals or families, aiming to lead them away from God.
These are unclean spirits that channel information, often via necromancy (contacting the dead).
They mimic God’s presence and create confusion to foster bondage, idolatry, or rebellion.
God’s Word strictly prohibits consulting them. Leviticus 19:31 and Deuteronomy 18:10-12 command against seeking out mediums or wizards, declaring them a source of defilement.
.The term 'ob implies a hollow vessel or skin bottle, suggesting these spirits seek a human host to fill and speak and operate through.
Familiar spirits, are often evil spirits of late relatives, looking for a body to enter and possess, for theirs is deceased.
These are evil spirits (persons without bodies), that come like all unclean spirits and demons, to steal, kill, and destroy (JOHN 10:10), by taking up residence within one’s body because theirs is dead, justified by sin to take possession.
They bring sickness, mental health issues, suicidal thoughts, depression, fear, torment, addictions , and all kinds repetitive sin, while filling one sub-conscious mind with false doctrines, and lies. These are strong holds of the mind and only God through prayer and deliverance, can they be torn down (2 CORINTHIANS 10:4).
Not only does our own sin let these devil’s in, but also the sins of our ancestors.
The Bible teaches that while individuals are not legally condemned for the sins of their ancestors, they often bear the temporal consequences and destructive patterns passed down through the generations, because these demonic entities pass through the blood lines from parents to children because the “life is in the blood (LEVICTICUS 17:11).
”Scripture emphasizes personal accountability for one’s own sin (Ezekiel 18:20), while also noting that God visits iniquity to the third and fourth generation of those who hate Him, which is a cycle that can be broken through repentance and submission to Christ.
Ezekiel 18:4 and 18:20 states, "The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father...". Each person is responsible for their own actions, not those of their parents.
Sins like idolatry or abuse can create destructive patterns, broken relationships, and poor moral examples, that affect the subsequent generations and even bring hereditary diseases, illnesses and mental health issues.
Exodus 20:5, 34:7, and Numbers 14:18 mentions God visiting the iniquity of the fathers on children to the third and fourth generation, which is generally understood as the long-lasting negative impact of sin, because these demonic entities are passed down through the blood lines from generation to generation.
These are known as generational curses. These ancestorial ties must be cut, the generational curses broken, and like all unclean spirits and demons, must be called out and evicted, with every un-godly soul tie cut, and every strong hold of the mind torn down, before true freedom and healing can be achieved.
Furthermore, hurts, trauma’s and the scars of our past bring strong holds of the mind, and with them, unhealthy default behaviours that can re-open doors to the demonic that must be dealt with before one is truly free.
But my beloved, everything was paid for at the cross, even our shame. But “Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him. He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed."
