Blessed Are The Peacemakers, For They Will Be Called Children Of God
Dealing With Conflict
MATHEW 5:9
“Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.”

This famous verse from the Sermon on the Mount elevates active reconciliation over passive avoidance of conflict. It defines true followers of God as those who deliberately bridge divides and promote harmony.
Jesus contrasts the work of a peacemaker with that of a peacekeeper. A peacekeeper avoids conflict to maintain a superficial calm, often ignoring injustice or tension. But a peacemaker takes proactive, sometimes difficult steps to resolve the root causes of division, demonstrating that peace often must be actively built rather than simply preserved.
In the biblical context, this extends far beyond interpersonal arguments. It reflects God's ultimate desire to reconcile humanity to Himself. Believers are called to emulate Jesus (the ultimate peacemaker) by spreading the gospel and actively mending broken relationships within their communities, families, and churches.
The promise for peacemakers is that they will be called “children of God." In ancient biblical cultures, bearing someone’s name or being called their child meant you shared their character. By acting as representatives of peace, believers reflect the very nature of God, proving themselves to be true spiritual sons and daughters of the Most High.
Initiating conversations is the first step to resolve a misunderstanding rather than letting bitterness build.
Believers must refrain from gossip or fuelling existing arguments, but rather, they must seek to build bridges between conflicting parties.
Sharing the Gospel and viewing evangelism as an ultimate act of peacemaking shall bring peace into the body of Christ as it will between God and humanity.
If you are caught up in conflict, it will not resolve without conversation. Therefore, let go of all offence and look for common ground to rebuild and take the first steps to initiate conversation, making every effort to fix your broken relationships.
All glory be to God forever and ever! Amen
