JOHN 1:1
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The words “In the beginning..." echoes the opening of Genesis 1:1 ("In the beginning, God created” placing Jesus outside of normal time and history. Before the universe existed, the Word already was-He was not created.
Followed by “was the Word" of which the Greek word here is Logos. To Jewish readers, it recalled God's spoken, creative power, such as in Genesis where God speaks the world into being. To Greek thinkers, Logos meant divine reason or order shaping the cosmos. Later in John 1:14, this "Word" is identified as Jesus Christ.
The verses continues "and the Word was with God". This shows a distinct relationship. The Word is separate in personhood from God the Father, yet intimately close and in eternal fellowship with Him, followed by the words, "And the word was God".
These words declare the divine identity of Jesus.

Rather than being a created being or a secondary assistant, Jesus shares the full nature, essence, and deity of God.
Jesus did not start at His birth in Bethlehem; He has always existed.
The verse sets the stage for John 1:3, showing that all things were made through Jesus.
It forms a cornerstone for Christian doctrine regarding the Trinity, showing that Jesus is co-equal and co-eternal with the Father.
