If You Need Wisdom, Ask Our Generous God, And He Will Give It To You
Don't Be Double Minded
JAMES 1:5-8
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

These verses are foundational biblical passage that encourages believers to seek wisdom from God during difficult times, provided they ask with unwavering faith rather than a divided, doubtful mindset.
The passage breaks down into four core concepts.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God..."In context, the "wisdom" James refers to is not just general intelligence; it is the spiritual insight needed to navigate trials and suffering with a joyful, enduring faith. James acknowledges that we naturally lack this perspective, so our instinct should be to ask God for it.
God's Generous Character is highlighted with the words “who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
“When you approach God for wisdom, you do not need to fear being turned away or shamed. God gives his wisdom liberally and without reproach. He will not demean you or hold your past mistakes against you for asking.
We believers are to ask in Faith (Verse 6)
“But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
“To receive this wisdom, you must approach God trusting in His character and His promise to provide.
Doubting in this context means being entirely tossed back and forth between trusting God and relying on your own worldly solutions.
“That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.
A "double-minded" person tries to straddle the fence—wanting God's direction while simultaneously holding onto the world's ways. James warns us that this spiritual instability blocks your ability to receive from God, leaving you confused and unsettled and opens doors to the demonic, who then influence one’s decisions and belief systems from within, to bring fear, torment, and more confusion and continuous misery until repentance is achieved and they are evicted.
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
