Be A Cheerful Giver

PROVERBS 11:24-25
“There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty. The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself.
”‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭11:24-25‬ ‭NKJV‬

These two verses go against our natural inclinations; they present a paradox that we become more wealthy by being generous.
Our natural inclination is to hold on to as much as one can, but the truth is, God blesses those who freely give of their time, money, and possessions.
When we give regularly in God’s wisdom, He will give us even more so we can give even more. Like a snow ball, it will grow bigger and bigger.
Furthermore, giving helps us to gain a right perspective on our possessions; we come to realise that they were never really ours to begin with-all we have is of God’s grace, and much has been given to us to serve God and help others.
By giving, we gain freedom from enslavement to our possessions and experience the joy of helping others in need.
But when we give, we must do so by the leading of the Holy Spirit without expectation of something in return. Therefore, when you are led to give, do it in secret. Jesus said, ““Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:1-4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
To give carelessly is foolish and will drag one into poverty.
Sadly, many deceivers are very good at pouring out emotional blackmail, even using Scripture or false prophecy to twist one’s hand into giving.
That can include some Pastors and church leaders preaching a false prosperity Jesus.
Some people are simply lazy to work and earn an honest living. They learn to live off of the backs of the generous.
We are not called to the lazy, but rather the needy. “If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat (2 THESSALONIANS 3:10), and that my beloved, applys to our children.
Therefore, while being ready to give by the leading of the Holy Spirit, to even your last penny at the instruction of God, don’t be foolish.
Before giving to your church or a charitable organisation, or anyone in need, ask God for His approval before emptying your pockets.
It is God’s choice who gives to who, even when someone is genuinely pleading for help out of desperation.
To give outside the leading of the Holy Spirit can undermine God’s work and break your own finances.
Jesus is the head, and we are the body. It is the head that instructs all the members of the body, not the emotions of your flesh, nor the pastor or church leaders.
If God cannot trust you with small, He will not trust you with more.
My beloved, we humans naturally desire prosperity and riches, but God is not going to give us that what we can’t handle.
“If you see the oppression of the poor, and the violent perversion of justice and righteousness in a province, do not marvel at the matter; for high official watches over high official, and higher officials are over them. Moreover the profit of the land is for all; even the king is served from the field. He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; Nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity. When goods increase, They increase who eat them; So what profit have the owners Except to see them with their eyes? The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, Whether he eats little or much; But the abundance of the rich will not permit him to sleep. There is a severe evil which I have seen under the sun: Riches kept for their owner to his hurt. But those riches perish through misfortune; When he begets a son, there is nothing in his hand. As he came from his mother’s womb, naked shall he return, To go as he came; And he shall take nothing from his labor Which he may carry away in his hand. And this also is a severe evil— Just exactly as he came, so shall he go. And what profit has he who has labored for the wind? All his days he also eats in darkness, And he has much sorrow and sickness and anger.”
‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬-‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
My beloved, don’t seek riches or fame, but rather be satisfied with your lot, for God knows all your needs and will increase accordingly when your trust is in Him.
““Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭31‬-‭34‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
Some are blessed with riches and others not, “But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.”
‭‭II Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭6‬-‭8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
My beloved, “Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
‭‭I Timothy‬ ‭6‬:‭6‬-‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
