This verse is a famous biblical call for societal fairness: "But let justice roll on like a river, And righteousness like a Mighty stream!".
It serves as God's condemnation of empty religious rituals that are disconnected from ethical behavior and care for the vulnerable. The verse addresses three primary themes.
The Israelites were offering sacrifices, attending festivals, and singing religious songs. God rejected these acts because, in their daily lives, the wealthy and powerful were exploiting the poor and turning "justice into wormwood" (Amos 5:7).
Justice (Mishpat) refers to taking action to correct wrongs, protect the vulnerable, and ensure that everyone is treated fairly under the law. Amos envisions justice not as a fragile trickle, but as a mighty, unstoppable flood washing away corruption.
Righteousness (Tzedakah), represents moral uprightness and living in right, honest relationship with God and others. It is described as a "never-failing stream" (or perennial river), representing continuous, everyday ethical living rather than occasional acts of charity.
Ultimately, the verse means that true devotion to God is inseparable from the way human beings treat one another. It famously inspired civil rights leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who frequently quoted this passage to champion racial equality and social reform.
The message today is that we are in a time of exposure and justice, and it is going to be poured out like a Mighty stream across the nations-indeed it is here.
The justice is more about discipline than judgment, and will bring Gods chosen to their knees and will take the church into a final revival before the return our Lord Jesus Christ.
All glory be to God forever and ever! Amen.
Please share to our brothers and sisters all around the world.
